So at lunch time I drove up to Wicken Fen (12 miles or so north of Cambridge) and got some pictures, principally of the windpump (must not call it a mill) there. The weather was extremely changeable, switching from blue sky to cloud and rain in minutes. But when the sun did shine, it was a lovely clear East Anglian light ...

This is an HDR image.

Interesting that this is HDR, because looking at it I did not see that at all. It looks like what I'd expect my eyes to show me in this situation. Looking more closely now, maybe I can guess it from the slightly paler blue sky near the edge of the tower. Maybe.

I am trying to make HDRs that don't look like HDRs.

The halo effect *is* a giveaway, but I find if I pre-process the source images with DxO Optics Pro ( http://is.gd/8Zv2 ) this is much reduced.

Alex,

No pictures of the snow last weekend? I'm disappointed! That was a big weather event!

@Wu Ming Shi

We only had a light dusting of hail-like stuff in Cambridge, and it turned to rain shortly thereafter, spoiling everything :-(

Every morning when it's cold I twitch the curtains to see if it's snowed, ready to make a pre-dawn photo dash if necessary!
